The Impact of 5G in Indonesia’s 2030

Mid last year, Telkomsel successfully launched 5G in a few cities in Indonesia as the first and only provider that brought this capability to the nation. 5G’s ultra fast connection with low latency opened up opportunities to innovate local industries through technology.

As projected by The Industrial and Research Affiliation Institution of Bandung Institute of Technology (LAPI-ITB), the implementation of 5G is projected to help Indonesia gain Rp 2.8 quadrillion by 2030, making up 9.3% of gross domestic product (GDP).

However, it is projected that Indonesia will only make up 5 percent of total internet connection by 2025, the lowest among Asia-Pacific countries, as compared to South Korea that leads at 67%, as mentioned in the 2020 GSMA Mobile Economy Asia Pacific report.

If Indonesia does not want to lag behind and chooses to compete in the global industrial market, it is imperative that the country frees up more bandwidth and works towards building 5G infrastructures nationally.

According to PWC’s research the global impact of 5G to industries is too high to pass up.

This high value technology therefore requires strategic attention. Businesses need to know where and how 5G can create competitive advantages, what implementation or integration is crucial to generate value. Consecutively, the government needs to support the industries by making strategic laws that help businesses digitally transform like the Making Indonesia 4.0 programs.

So, if you’re still wondering whether 5G is worth the upgrade, now you know. Speak to our IoT Experts for 5G implementations you can do in your business and #TransformToday.
